TRANSMISSION CARE
Why Transmissions Overheat
From the shop · Greatstate Transmissions
Heat is a symptom worth checking
Heavy loads, cooling-system problems, incorrect fluid levels and internal slipping can contribute to transmission heat. The correct diagnosis depends on the vehicle and how it is being used.
Pay attention to warnings
A temperature warning, a burning odor or a change in shifting calls for attention. These symptoms can have several causes. If a warning appears while you are driving, reach a safe stopping place and follow your owner’s manual instructions. Do not continue a trip simply because the warning later disappears.
Use the right maintenance procedure
Fluid type, level-check procedure and service intervals are vehicle-specific. Some transmissions require specialized equipment to check the level. Ask the shop before adding fluid or choosing a service, and stay within the vehicle’s towing and payload limits.
