COASTAL CAR CARE
Salt, Sand & Your Transmission
From the shop · Greatstate Transmissions
Coastal conditions deserve attention
Salt air and road spray can contribute to corrosion of exposed vehicle parts. Sand and grime can collect underneath a vehicle. This does not mean normal beach-area driving automatically puts sand inside a sealed transmission, but damaged seals, leaks and water exposure deserve attention.
Care after a coastal drive
Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance for your vehicle, including the underbody. Avoid driving through salt water or flooded roads. Water depth, road damage and current can be difficult to judge, and water intrusion can damage vehicle systems.
Watch for changes
A new leak, unusual vibration, driveline noise or changing shift behavior is a reason to call the shop. Describe what happened and any water exposure. Avoid assuming a fluid change alone will fix a mechanical problem.
