The Secret Language of Your Transmission
When you bring your car in, you don’t need to know the name of every part. You just need to describe the “feeling.” Here are the three most common things we hear from our customers:
- “It feels like I got hit from behind”: This is often a “harsh shift.” It feels like a thud when the car changes gears.
- “The engine is racing, but I’m not going faster”: This is called “slipping.” Your engine is putting in the work, but it’s not reaching the wheels.
- “It sounds like a plane taking off”: A high-pitched whine or humming sound usually means a bearing or fluid issue.
None of these mean your car is “done for,” but they do mean it needs a check-up. We’ve been listening to these sounds in Corpus Christi since 1978—we know exactly what they’re trying to say!
